Some Days

Dear Universe,

Four? In one day? Isn't that a bit much?

I mean, I'm used to getting rejections. There's a plan--you log it in, you look at your list of where else you planned to send it, consider whether you're still happy with it, but not for too long unless you have a new insight or got comments on the story. And you send it out again.

But is four in one day really necessary?

I suspect it's time to contemplate kittens, who are very cute and playful now, and return to writing tomorrow.  And the Mama, who really likes getting her ears rubbed while the kittens pile on top of her and each other trying to reach their dinner.

And I know I'll feel less grumbly after some sleep.

And one of the rejections wasn't even a form letter; the editor said I should submit again.  Another reason to feel less grumbly.

So sue me for being human.

Aren't the kittens cute?

*hugs* BUmmer about 4 of those nasty slips. I guess good that one did say to submit again. Still, does make it hard. Good thing you have cute kittens to distract you.

Best wishes for your next round of submissions.

Thanks for the good wishes, as always. And the hugs.

Collecting rejections is part of the process. I accepted that a long time ago. The timing was just frustrating, is all.

I think your kittens are wonderful! I miss kittens. Were you trying to submit your story that you're posting on line?

These were four different short stories. Some of them have been posted privately to people who inspired them or offered to critique them, but none have been published.

As to Fireborn, my first goal is to finish it for the people who have been following it. Though I'd love to find a wider publication venue for it. :-D

Rats on the bad timing for the R.S.'s. That re-submission request is a bit of brite-lite. Try burying your face in purring felines for a few seconds (them kittens ain't gonna sit still for long), and breathe deeply with the mantra "I'll get 'em next time" in your head. :~)

I blame the timing on Easter. :-D

If I'd gotten the same four rejections on the last day of March I'd have been less grumpy. Some of them could have been submitted to other markets that closed as of April Fool's Day. Though the submission guidelines didn't phrase it quite that way.

Another one of those cases where simultaneous submissions would be nice, if only the submitees looked at it that way.

In a lot of ways I like the simplicity of knowing each story is out at only one place at a time. But I sure appreciate the people who return the stories quickly!

I guess, in an ideal world, people would either return stories in a few days or accept simultaneous submissions.
