I've been writing! And a poll

So, I’ve been organizing files at my temp job, which isn’t the most interesting work and is tiring, and has left me stiff many evenings. And going in to play with kittens takes time too.

But they’re cute.

They’re happily climbing the couches, running and jumping and exploring. They play with everything, from empty cat food cans (set on their side so they roll is wonderful) to pillows to clothes and hair. I think one is a short-hair. That one is eating canned cat food with Mama. The black one is lazy. He wakes up slowly and yawns, and then wants to eat some kibble. The others are still just sniffing at food other than their Mama’s milk. The browns-and-white one with the white nose comes running when you open the door, so you have to close it quickly or guard the door with your foot. And you have to watch underfoot for all of them. Usually, when I get in the room, I pile them all on the couch, so I can move around, for a while at least, without watching every step. They’re all happy and curious and have round bellies.

And I am still writing, though not as much as I’d like. I have a bunch of things under discussion on the Torn World forums. I wrote an article about the Empire and gender, and another about the history of the region Affamarg is in. Both of these are background for Dini and Lalya’s stories. Enough people have asked for more that I figure I should follow them at least through the wedding, which means considering what kind of wedding customs they will follow. Since the Empire has assimilated so many groups, there’s lots of possibilities, from the bare legal necessities (obtaining a license and moving in together) to a honeymoon vacation to something huge and formal. I could give them just a simple wedding—but where would be the fun in that?

I’ve written three stories about Dini and Lalya so far, two of which are up on the site already. And the second story with Alainya as the protagonist has just been approved published. I hope somebody will adopt her and take charge of her story, so I won’t be tempted to continue her story too. And I have a new story, or at least the first part of a new story, starring a teenager named Jrilii, who loves snow-unicorns. The story starts in Itadesh in the summer, and shows her first adventure as an adult. The first part of the story is finished; the second has been started.

I also have a chapter of Fireborn ready, but for today, I want to post the newest chapter of the Feather Dragons story. Which is turning out to be another serial. But people have expressed interest, and someone forwarded a sponsorship for the next installment, so it comes first. I had hoped to finish and post it yesterday, but I was tired, and the house phone wasn’t working, and after talking with the tech on my cell phone for way too long I was way too tired and frustrated to write well.

And that’s only the stuff that’s being published online!  I’m also still working on submitting stuff for traditional publication, too.

So, the new Feather Dragon story goes up today. After that, how soon should I post the next chapter of Fireborn? I’ll let you tell me:

Poll #1549389 Fireborn Poll

When should I post the next chapter of Fireborn?

You seem to've left out the very important link to Wide Sky With Small Critters. :)

(Also, this would be the bit where I run in circles squeaking indecisively about which story arc I most want to see more of. That one! No, the other one! Wait, over there!)

Link -- and a post title -- added. I had to restart this computer to get the post finished. *sigh*

I look forward to hearing which story arcs you want to see more of, and why!

You ask difficult questions. :) The things I'm aware of that you've written or are writing that feel like open threads to me are Lalya & Dini's marriage, Harp of Feathers, Feather-Blessed, and Fireborn. I suppose I can't actually count that new one that's still in canon-board review yet, and other people are more likely to be contributing to that storyline. I'd also be enthusiastic for more about Alainya and Bayarl, or Dlameda, or Miu, or the Riilass Swamps mythology, or several other cultures & myths you've been working on, but those don't feel like they're waiting for (middles and) endings in the same way.

I like Lalya and Alainya and Miu, and enjoy reading about them and seeing their worlds through their eyes. They're walking new paths I get to walk with them.
Harp of Feathers is the first step of a journey, and chock-full of fascinating little details and things to come. Graifiri's relationship with her the culture she was born into rings true & encourages me to think about mine.
Feather-Blessed ... I may be a sucker for dragons, and modern fairy-tales (borderline). It's also looking to be a child-accessible story that may appeal to some friends with kids.
How could I not adore skycat? I'm also fond of mythology in general and tricksters in particular (also a vote for more of Miu and her brother).

You left out a possible answer on the poll...how about putting up Fireborn when you've rested and are ready to. :) I am eager to see it of course but I don't want you stressing any more than you have to, especially if work is taking it's toll on you.

Since my vote doesn't count, yours carried the day!

Here's hoping it's a good time for other readers too. :-D

We're always good. If you took a 6mth hiatus I might be disappointed but I'd understand! A few days? A couple weeks?? easily understandable, especially if you are worn out from work!
