Shifting Gears

This week, for the most part, my creative life has been focused on Torn World, rewriting stuff that's in canon review, and working on stuff for the latest contest.

The end of next week is the end of this current temp job. I have something lined up for afterward, but except for a week of training, not immediately. You see, there's another pregnant lady at the location I've been working at. So I'm going to go from temping as a legal assistant to temping as a paralegal. The gap in employment is far from ideal of course, especially in the short run. In the long run, however, it should be a good move, opening up more jobs, and also better-paying jobs.

Tomorrow, they're having a baby shower for the lady I'll be replacing starting in late September or early October. Now, my traditional baby gift is a tie-dyed onesie; either I sold all of them or buried them too-well in amongst the other tie-dyes. But I found a blank one. Now, I could have mixed dyes and dyed it, but that's a lot of mess on a weeknight to make one little onesie. So instead I pulled out the fabric paints.

I hope they like dragons!

I still have to iron it to set the paints and find a suitable or paper amongst the Christmas wrapping stuff.  But I figured you folks might enjoy seeing the little critter.

It's fun to share. Sadly, I haven't been having time for much art besides TW contest entries, since I do enjoy other artists' progress reports on longer works, and would like to do more of that. But somehow, they don't seem the same as retrospectives.

You know, I've been thinking about this, and I'm not sure there's any good reason we can't share our work in the WIP forum, at least. Our judge this time is a guest who has no access there!

This might be worth discussing. I can see potential plusses and minuses. At best, it would allow some revisions for canon purposes as we go, but it would also require either always having guest judges or some fancy coding to mask discussions from a TW-contributor who's sitting out the contest to judge it.

I agree with the others--adorable and cute. Even if the recipient wasn't a dragon fan before, they will be when they see your little guy.

I doubt this woman is so easily swayed! She seems the sort who likes what she likes (and dislikes what she dislikes). But I admit to being pleased with the results.

This having to have art to submit with Torn World entries has been good for me too, forcing me to paint more regularly, and to tackle subjects I'm not as familiar/comfortable with.
