Mural - Update 2

This is last night's update--I was too tired when we got brushes cleaned to do any of the things I'd planned. Comes of being wakened early by the insurance guy who I expected to call on Friday (his voice mails were not working right), and then driving to Chicago in a car with no air conditioning at midday in mid-summer heat.

The window detail is brightened enough for you to see who's in the house; it's a little darker in person.

And the texture that works so nicely for the tree and clouds is a real pain for houses and windows!

The "moon" in the tree limbs is an illusion caused by where the ceiling light was shining on the wall--but I really like the illusion!

We had another friend who dropped by to talk, who actually tried painting.  that was fun.

But I think what's best is having a teenager who keeps smiling and saying "I like it", "this is great" and "thank you!"

Oh, yeah, the (as yet incomplete) tree:

Another update, and a surprise dragon, follows.

Hit send much too soon.
It's all really well done, but the placement of that bare tree was inspired, and there's something very satisfying about the shape. What kind of paint did you use for that?

I like the tower behind the green tree. Will you post pictures when it's finished?

Re: Hit send much too soon.
I'll tell my sister you approve! She sketched out a plan for that tree before we started painting it.

We're using standard painting (artist's) acrylics, and some leftover acrylic wall paint. The bare tree is almost all artist's acrylics; the sky and walls are mostly wall paint, except for adding black.

Oh, I definitely plan to post more pictures as we go! I have greatly enjoyed watching other artist's projects in progress, so I'm glad to be able to pass that forward.

Oooooh, I really like how that's turning out!

Yay, trees!

Trees were always in the plan; The Niece (who thinks that's a boring LJ name, and asks that I switch to calling her "Spooky" here) wanted a twisty tree. However, you build acrylics in layers, and so the base coat was sky and clouds.

I'm sad I didn't get the pine tree properly colored in yet; I wanted the windows behind it first.

But there's next weekend!

Coming together well! I like the windows and the shingle detailing. :)

Thank you!

I'm pleased with those shingles. But I have to admit, I'm more impressed with the windows my sister did than the ones I did.

I love seeing this work in progress, looking great! And I can't wait to see the finished project.

I'm glad. We're fast approaching the point where we'll have to call it "done for now" and get the rest of the room in order -- Spooky has a Halloween-theme birthday party coming up, and she wants to show off the mural to her friends. But there will be more pictures.
