New Moon Card Draw

It's been a while since I did a one (or more) card draw, so in honor of the new moon, the new year, and Torn World's fifth anniversary, I'm running one now. I'll do a limited number of free readings, and an unlimited number of paid ones. I will leave the post open for free readings for at least a few hours; if free readings are closed, I'll edit that in here, so you won't have to guess. The free reading window is closed! I am still open to do readings if you tip.

I've written before about why I do readings and some of the decks I use here, feel free to hop over and check me out. I'll wait.

Today, for free one card readings, you can pick from either the Shapeshifter Tarot or the Fantasy Showcase Tarot. You can ask a question or just ask for a card. If you tip, you can also ask for an additional card, or a card from another deck. Not sure if I have a particular deck? You're welcome to ask.

I am also offering to draw you a Guide for the year (or a project or some other period of time that you specify) from my combined deck of Susan Seddon Boulet art cards. You can ask for this as your free reading if you don't ask for a card from one of the tarot decks.

Finally, in honor of Torn World's anniversary, I'm offering to have my character, Rai Kunabei, do a disk reading for you or for a torn world character of your choice. This will take the form of an imaginary visit to Torn World and will feature the divination disks I designed for that world. Feel free to include some details about yourself to help me portray you in this world. The Torn World readings are a lot of fun to write, but do take correspondingly higher amount of time or energy. If you want a virtual visit to Torn World, please tip, and if you want a reading for a character, please tip at least $10. Readings for characters are most likely to be non-canon, but if I can place the characters together in a way that might be approved as canon, I'm willing to try.

You are welcome to ask about your creative endeavors as well as posing more traditional questions. This might be asking for a card or Guide for one of your own characters, advice about fixing a plot problem, getting past writer's block, or whatever it is that you need.

Please consider dropping something in the case! Readings take time and energy, and I am currently funding repairs for bathrooms and my furnace. Signal boosts are also appreciated. If you are tipping, please include that in your reply here, so I'm not guessing when I sit down to do your reading.

I understand all too well that sometimes people don't have cash or spoons, and it is generally during those times when people most need inspiration! Don't be afraid to ask for a card if you can't tip.

Tips should be at least $1 (Paypal charges fees) or at least one Torn World credit. If neither of these work for you, drop me a message and we'll work something out.

You can get a private reading if you tip; I'll send the reading to the e-mail you use for tipping or you can send a private message to make other arrangements. I'm also open to doing longer paid readings, for instance Celtic Cross or Wheel of the Year; again, please send a private message if you're interested.

I will do readings promptly, but I have other work and commitments, so if I get a lot of requests or if I have internet problems, it may take a little time. I will reply to all requests. If the number of requests nears my limits, I'll close this One Card Draw rather than risk leaving anyone without a response.

Thank you!

As always, these readings are for entertainment and inspiration only. See my "Dandelyon's Readings" page if you have questions.

Ooh, lovely! I'm sending you A tip as soon as this posts.

I think I'd like to know just in general about my creative endeavors and how to find success with them. And would love a reading with the Froud deck if you're okay with that. :)

Laiste, Moon's Laughter
For you I draw Laiste, Moon’s Daughter. She is a mischievous sprite with a big grin, tiny hooves, and luminous feathered wings. The moon’s light changes a person’s point of view, sometimes making things clear, but sometimes obscuring them. And indeed, here, Laiste is caught perching on the artist’s cheeks, blocking her vision, curling her long tail around the storyteller’s ear. She is perhaps tickling the artist, who is laughing as one does when a beloved pet cuddles awkwardly close.

Laiste says to trust your higher (or deeper, or brighter, or darker) inner self. A lot of the work of creativity happens off stage, and you don’t have to understand it consciously to be making progress. As you reach for your dreams, you are reaching for the skills that are just barely within your grasp, if you don’t grab too tightly. Ask Laiste your questions, but don’t expect her responses to be simple. Faeries live differently than we do, and the best communication with them is symbolic.

Her responses might seem like a riddle, but don’t feel like you have to puzzle it out seriously. Joy is the key here. Laugh at your failures, and learn from them. Laugh also for the joy of your successes, and learn from them too. Remember, play is sacred. It’s not only OK to play, it’s necessary.

Oh, and don’t go walking around without shifting Laiste to your shoulder or letting her take flight. A little practical care is a very good thing while your higher self is thoroughly distracted by creating new things. Once she knows you’re paying attention, Laiste won’t feel the need to blind you to get her message across, though she probably won’t stop tickling your ear.

I would love to know what the next couple weeks might hold for me creatively. Could I have a card from the Shapeshifter deck?

Edit: I just put in a tip.

The Sun
For you, I drew the Sun, reversed. In this deck, the sun is a golden, long-haired man/griffin. He stands on bare earth, the rock showing his strength, and reaches up to claim the sun, his glorious, feathered wings arrayed between the solidity of earth and the passion of the sun.

There's so much creative power here, yet you will need to be careful with it and with yourself. The mundane details of life need to be attended to so that exhaustion, thirst, hunger, or some mishap reduces your focus or creative output. That earth looks awfully parched from here. Take care of yourself.

I found you through shadowsculptor, and your Susan Seddon Boulet guide readings sound quite interesting! Could I ask for a guide for connecting deeper with myself? (as a sense of what I mean, I mean connecting deeper both in the authentic and knowing myself sense as well as being able to connect deeper with myself when it comes to creative endeavors, if that makes sense? If the deck doesn't work like that, then just a general guide for the year is fine.) Thank you very much!

Welcome! I'm glad you stopped by. Come on in and have a seat. I can make tea if you like. I have mints from my garden, though those are better when I can pick them fresh. But the dried ones are pretty good.

Or pick a tea bag, there's plenty of options.

What you're asking makes total sense to me. As an artist myself, I know how mysterious the connection between the artist's emotions and the creative process can be. So let me shuffle and ask the cards to give you a guide. It might be a guide for your whole life, or one for just now, but the only place to start from is now, so let's see here.

After shuffling the cards, I draw you the Owl from the Animal Spirits Knowledge Cards. Ms. Boulet drew more than one owl, so let me see if I can find the image on the web. Ah--here it is: Owl

I'm not an expert on owls, but this one seems to be more like a barn owl than a great horned owl. She's a homey beast, and she holds a key. That seems like a good sign, to me. She's here to help you, though I'm not sure if she's offering to unlock your inner self or to help you find the freedom you need to create and learn and create again. Of course, though I can only see one key, she could have a whole chatelaine full.

I find it interesting that though the back of the card identifies Owl as being connected to darkness and lunar energy, the painting itself is in sun colors. But then, creativity is like that. A simple story or painting can hold multiple layers of meaning, and a symbol that stands for the moon one day could give insight into the sun the next.

Outside, we hear the cry of an owl and I look up in surprise. I didn't know there was an owl in the neighborhood. Well, of course, there might not have been, before you came questing. I pour the rest of your drink into a spare water bottle, and invite you to go out and meet your Guide.

You don't want to be rude, getting your card and running, but I wave you on. You and I can always talk later, if you like. I let you out the secret entrance, that opens directly onto the mythic woods, to speed your way.

I don't think I'll tip, but people sometimes say I'm unbalanced.
As a Catholic, I'm not supposed to participate in these things,
but I suppose you ~could~ give someone else a second free card.

Re: I don't think I'll tip, but people sometimes say I'm unbalanced.
Welcome! Why don't you sit down and have some tea while I wait for someone who does want a card.

I can understand not wanting to participate in something you perceive to be non-Catholic magic (i.e. divination), however, the cards can also be used for meditation or inspiration. I am curious, though: would you feel comfortable getting a card in a purely secular contest, for instance, as a prompt for your next bit of creativity?

Not sure if you need more info for that?

For you, I draw Monkey. He (or she) appears to me to be dancing in the moonlight I'm not sure if Monkey is slipping on marbles or if those are magic-filled bubbles coasting in the wind she is walking on. Or perhaps they are mysterious planets or different spheres of existence. Or hard candy.

The text on the back of the card states that this monkey recalls the power of Hanuman and his ability to leap across the heavens. Hanuman is known for leading a monkey army to rescue Vishnu's Queen, Sita, from the demon who abducted her.

Monkey invites you to dance with her in the light of the moon and the stars. Getting moving, like the start of any leap of faith, requires an effort to escape the inertia of sitting still, but once you are moving, inertia works to keep you going, especially if you have a little help to avoid the friction that normally slows us mere mortals down.

Monkey extends her hand, smiling, "Come on, let's GO!"

Is it safe? There's no guarantees, but it seems to me like the only promise made here is for adventure. Pick your direction and make your leap, and let Monkey teach you her dance.

Here is a link to a picture of this painting: Monkey

I would like a reading from Rai Kunabei, for Denel in Affamarg. Possibly Oranaan will goad her into getting a reading - probably those two will conduct a scientific interview of her for their research!

Oooh, yes! That is a canon-eligible story, though. It will probably take a couple of days.

I have tipped.

I would like a card from each deck please - I'm after ideas for a themed prompt request.

I don't see a tip notification from PayPal, in my regular e-mail or my spam folder. I have to run an errand now but I'll double check the paypal account afterward.

Also, if I get this right, you want three separate cards, rather than one three-card reading? Or do you want a reading and you will also use those cards to suggest possible prompts/themes? I can work with whatever you want, I'm just not clear about it.

It's cool to have such an interesting request!

My LJ e-mail is not connected to my paypal, but the guitar case there is. :-D If, for some reason, the tip button doesn't work, let me know and I'll PM you my e-mail address or we'll figure out some alternate plan.

And thank you. I'll draw your card this evening, after I get the errand done on the place that will close soon.

The Friends
Welcome! Thank you for stopping by, and for tipping. A private question is fine, and thanks for mentioning it, since that comment section is at the bottom of the form, and doesn't show unless I scroll down.

But come on in and have a seat. There's tea, if you want it, and I made magic cookie bars." Now, which deck should I use? I hold my hand over the decks, and feel drawn to the Faerie Oracle. I shuffle, spread the cards, and let you pull one from the fan.

We are greeted immediately by two smiling faeries, Faery Nuff and Laochan. Faery Nuff is portly, with colorful wings, blue hair that reminds me of dandelion fluff, and bright glowing tips on his tail and antennae. Laochan is long and skinny, with even skinnier wings and very long fingers and toes. He can't sit still, and runs about, looking at everything. They have a ball that looks suspiciously like the Moon, which they toss back and forth.

While Laochan inspects your left ear, Faery Nuff leans over to sniff your hands. "Friends?" he asks, as if that's self-explanatory. Laochan nods. "Friends!" Faery Nuff nods decisively. "Call if you need us." Laochan does a backflip. "Or if you're lonely, or want to play toss. Or have cookies."

A moment later, we are sitting alone at the table, looking at the card. The plate of cookies is empty, and so is the teapot.

I get out more cookies and set more water to boil. "Well, that was unexpected. I'm not sure I have a lot to add to that, so instead I'll share one of the measures I use to tell how good a particular friendship is."

You nod, staring at the card, which shows Laochan running, carrying a content Faery Nuff on one hand.

"The best friendships," I say, "at least in my experience, are with the people who, just by being themselves, inspire me to be someone who I like better. I think the faeries are telling you to call on your friends, tell them if you need them, and see if they need you. Old friends or new (and I think you made a couple of new ones just now), there's nothing that helps you to find yourself better than looking into the mirror that is the eyes of a true friend."

I let you look at the card as long as you want to before offering, "Did that answer your question, or do you need another card?"

I hope your readings went well. It is good to know about the Susan Seddon Boulet deck. I have one but am quite thoroughly out of practice with it. If I go for a tipped reading it is nice to know that is an option :)

I really enjoy doing readings. I have a bunch of decks and so does my partner; I offer to do readings from my favorites.

What deck do you have?
