Racoon Moon

February’s full moon, variously Snow Moon, Storm Moon, Bony Moon, Chaste Moon, and Moon of the Racoon.  (The Chinese “Budding Moon” seems particularly inappropriate this year…not that it would ever be very appropriate in Milwaukee…)  But Storm Moon has certainly been appropriate, as has Snow Moon.  And I even saw a racoon in my yard the other day.  (Last time, we saw three, but that was when the mulberry tree was in fruit.)

This year, February’s full moon will include an eclipse!  And they’re predicting clear skies, last I checked.  That would be MUCH more exciting if they weren’t predicting to have wind chill advisories at the time.  Instead, it is frustrating.

Oh, to have a “personal shield” like Zenna Henderson’s People!

I’ll have to see if I have a window pointed in the right direction.  Or more likely, content myself with searching the web tomorrow for images.  Like usual.  Sigh.

Or maybe (</a></b></a>beige_alert) will take pictures!

I might take pictures. (More later, of course.) It's really not that cold, unless you hoped to dance skyclad in the dim red light or something.

Cold
It's definitely too cold to sit outside, roasting marshmallows and watching the moon for the whole event! Heck, as cold as my fingers have been getting in the last few years, it's too cold to be outside much at all, even with thinsulate gloves. Getting older, in some ways, is a drag!

Deirdre

P.S. I hope it's OK that I stole one of the pics you took of me at Capricon to use here! Also, check out the actual spelling of my name--it foils LOTS of people, as it breaks both the English spelling rule about i and e and expectations (like the rdr and the end "e" sounding like "a").

Re: Cold
Well, yes, it was rather cold to just hang out all night watching.

I never even try to spell your name without looking it up to get it right, and you see how well that worked for me. I'd feel silly, but you misspelled my name on the icon credit, too, so I guess we're even. ;) I'm happy you used the photo!

Re: Spelling
I'll have to look your name up to see what typo I made, & fix it!

Don't feel silly--silly is being one of the copy editors of the school paper and having Deirdre mis-spelled more than half the time in the published paper, despite repeated and multitudinous attempts to get the printer to fix it! I was much more frustrated back then (tho being a teenager probably had something to do with the feeling of outrage) than now. Now I've been published in more than one venue, and only about 1/2 of the time is it right. (Often only half the time in the same publication!) As I remember from looking through your photos, you were consistent in your spelling of my name, so perhaps you just chose the wrong place to look it up? At this point, I only mention it because I actually like my name, and if I don't stick up for it no one will (ever) have a clue.
