official reports and testimomy

from my e-mail from the ACLU:  A report released yesterday by the Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General on the FBI’s use of National Security Letters (NSLs) reveals a systemic, widespread abuse of power.  Their "read more" link is for an article on March 5, which starts, "In testimony today before the Senate Judiciary Committee, FBI Director Robert Mueller confirmed the misuse of National Security Letters (NSLs) – which allow for the collection of personal information without court approval – to secure Americans’ personal information during FBI investigations."

Not that I expected there would be no abuses -- I keep writing my senators saying we have to have safeguards because there has never been a group of humans where someone didn't break the rules, but this sounds worse than I predicted.

Sigh.

Sometimes a person would appreciate being wrong.  Or at least not being so very right.

Also, one wonders why I had to wait a week and then only hear about this from the ACLU?  Widespread abuse of power by the FBI should be big news.   Or a campaign point.  Or at least mentioned!
