Pencil Moon

I’ve been doing some pencil drawing, but more than that, a pencil is symbolic of setting all sorts of things to paper. And a new moon is, symbolically, also like a blank piece of paper, though to properly symbolize the night sky, I suppose one should start with scratchboard, all black, and etch away to reveal your drawing in bright, clear lines...mind you, I like my painting better than my drawing, a complete turn-around since my childhood, when I loved drawing, because I could control the end of a pencil more precisely than I could the tip of a brush.

Also I’ve been writing more, doing some worldbuilding. Story snippets, notes, tables…mostly story snippets. They’re more fun to write than tables. Eventually, I’ll want to start a timeline, and think more about geography, and the like. But first, I want an idea of the cultures and the differences between the different kinds of humans I’m imagining. Right now, the “real” history isn’t as important to me as the myths, legends, and daily lore. I’ll probably share some of that here, at least when I have snippets I don’t think will rewrite into something I could try to sell in the traditional fiction markets. Those, well, I’d really like to supplement my abysmal budget; for that matter, I dream that someday I will be able to support myself through creative projects. Or at least substantially supplement what would otherwise be a very meager retirement…

I’ve been looking at lj user ysabetwordsmith’s cyberfunded creativity concept. There may be a way to make this work for me, to that end.

But back to today, by chance, for Sudoku today, I grabbed a pencil with a pale crescent moon peeking through the end of the black eraser. Yes, pencil moon is definitely appropriate for today.

I'm glad to hear about your writing and drawing.

By all means, try your hand at cyberfunded creativity. I'd love to hear about that too, especially on crowdfunding
