Writing Updatery

I have been working on a story from the prompts you kindly gave me, but this working full time cuts into my writing time. However, the people who played along and suggested things that are appearing in the story will probably get to see the first draft later this week.

And I have a new chapter of Fireborn drafted; I wanted to read it over and post it lastnight, but bedtime came too early.

I'm doing something a little different -- with Dragon suddenly deciding to be a viewpoint character, I figure we need to see some of what's going on from his point of view before he meets Orchid and Mist. This chapter will be a bonus for people who've shown support for Fireborn by commenting or by sponsoring it. I'm planning to post it tonight, hopefully before Criminal Minds.

So if you've been lurking, you're welcome to come out of hiding! There's a nice comment link below, and a pretty painting of a hat on my profile for people who would prefer to catch my attention that way. And for sponsors who don't have an LJ, let me know that and I'll e-mail the chapter to you.

When we chatted at Capricon, I mentioned that I didn't start reading Fireborn when you first posted it, and once I was several chapters behind, I was a little intimidated about diving in, and you said that you would be interested in seeing how someone reacted to reading the whole thing with fresh eyes. So I haven't made a point of going back and starting it right now. I'm waiting for you to tell me either that it's done, or that you've reached an important place.

Of course, this means that I haven't been commenting on the ongoing episodes. I hope this won't disqualify me from reading the whole story when I do get to it. (Someday, I hope I'll be able to actually give you money. First, though, I need to have some. And I need to work through my own issues about how much I should be paying. Without going into it in detail, I have a strong need to feel like I'm paying a fair price but I can't figure out what that is.)

That's cool. I will really enjoy getting a comment from someone who reads it all at once when it's finished. So I can pretend I'm patient! I'm told I'm very good at tat particular social grace.

As to how much money things are worth, that's always an interesting question. There's all sorts of aspects to "worth", and different people weigh the aspects differently. The topic probably deserves a post or two. Want to share some of the factors that matter to you?

And you did provide good feedback for me on more than one thing at Capricon; I'll put you on the list in anticipation of feedback later.

Also, speaking of our discussion at Capricon, I passed your comments on to Ellen and she made some changes to the landing site for Torn World, addressing as many of your comments as she could without recoding the whole page. I'd love to hear if what she did made things more user-friendly for you!

I have not been keeping up with your journal of late :/ I admit it! Nor have I been commenting. But I do check out your new stuff and I always love the shape of your prose... it's so clever and somehow delicate. Crafted. That's the word.

Your life has been more than a little crazy-making lately. But any time you want a break from it, you're welcome to drop by and read a little.

Thanks for the feedback! That's an interesting description. It's so cool to get a glimpse of my work through someone else's eyes.

I knew the job would cut into writing time. :) But it pays the bills & it's something for a start hey?
